When people think about service academies, they often think of drill commands and push-ups. But military institutions like the Air Force Academy are some of the top universities in the country. In fact, they offer a lot of the same opportunities a student would have at a typical college.
Learn more about the U.S. Air Force below:
Dozens of Majors
Students graduate with a degree in the field of their choosing, just like at any college. And there’s a wide variety to choose from too. There are the ones you’d expect, like history, civil engineering and biology, but there are also liberal arts degrees, such as philosophy and literature.
A Variety of Extra Curricular Activities
Military academies are not as creatively confining as you might think. They offer a range of extracurricular activities students can participate in, such as ski club, biking, fly-fishing and sailing.
They’re not learning from graduate students. The faculty features some of the brightest and most respected leaders in their fields. They all have master’s degrees and many have doctorates.
Air Force Cadets have the opportunity to broaden their horizons by participating in programs outside of the Academy. Similar to a traditional university, Cadets can study abroad internationally, but unlike many institutions, they can enroll in programs to get on-the-job training along-side active duty Airmen.
There are no tuition charges. The cost, including room, board and medical and dental care, is covered in exchange for a commitment to serve as an officer. But students also receive a monthly salary to pay for supplies, clothing and personal expenses.
