Rihanna was in town with her baby niece, Majesty, and she popped by Cozy Cuts for Kids on the Upper East Side last week (74th Street and 2nd Ave) to get her niece, Majesty’s, first ear piercing. Aunt Rihanna never put the infant down and was excited to share the experience with her. The Cozy Cuts staff smiled along as they tried to calm the baby girl down by blowing bubbles.
It’s perfect timing actually since SoCozy just launched – it’s the new professional haircare collection for kids and is rolling out nationally now at select stores and salons. For more info, see press material attached or visit socozy.com.
While you’re sipping on your coffee break, did you know cutie-patootie Zac Efron and rumored-bisexual actress Michelle Rodriguez were an item?! Apparently so, and the relationship is over as reports of their break up hit the net this week. According to Us Weekly, the couple broke up following a huge fight in Ibiza. The two first got together, as far as the public can tell, back in June, which is when pictures of them kissing on a boat first surfaced. From the sounds of things, it seems Zac might’ve been more into the relationship than Michelle, with a source telling US: “Michelle is going to do her own thing. Zac knew this about her when he got with her. He’s very into her, though, and perhaps more than she’s into him.” “Zac still wants to be with her,” added another source. What do you guys think of this unlikely pair?
ALS has received widespread attention the past few weeks thanks to a successful viral Ice Bucket Challenge that has seen both regular folks and the likes of Gabrielle Union, Lady Gaga and Shakira, to list a few celebrities, dumping buckets of ice water over their heads to bring awareness to and raise money for the disease. But now, new reports are connecting the debilitating illness to the game of football as former NFL player Tim Shaw becomes the latest athlete to announce he has been stricken by ALS. “Hi, I am Tim Shaw. A year ago I was playing NFL football. I recently have been diagnosed with ALS,” he wrote on the Tennessee Titans’ official website. Shaw is the fourth former NFL player to recently be diagnosed with ALS, a progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells that control voluntary movement for which a cause and a cure are still unknown, in the past seven years. Now the question is if there is a connection between playing football and ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, although, according to Forbes, there is evidence that football players might be four times more likely to have ALS than the general male population, with the incident rate rising from fewer than two cases out of nearly 3,500 men to seven cases among former NFL players.
In travel news, following a slew of financial issues, Revel, the $2.4 billion Atlantic City, New Jersey, waterfront resort that opened in 2012, will close its doors on Monday, Sept. 1. The sleek and stylish resort has been plagued with money problems from its inception, including construction delays back in January 2009 due to lack of funds and filing for bankruptcy twice since opening. Revel, which was hoped to be the answer to Atlantic City’s gambling woes, was believed to have the power the attract the crowds that had slowly been opting for other gambling venues in nearby states, including New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. But, unfortunately, it failed to meet gambling needs. “It was a resort with a casino, not a casino with a resort,” says Alan Woinski, publisher of Gaming industry Weekly Report. “Casinos need to attract gamblers – that’s what pays the bills.” Revel was reportedly losing between $1 million and $2 million a week and is the fourth Atlantic City casino to shut down this year.
For all of the followers hoping to get personal insight about the state of Beyonce and Jay-Z’s relationship, Tina Knowles has one thing to say: “everything is perfect.” TMZ cameras caught up with Mrs. Knowles as she left a lunch date with Kelly Rowland at Via Alloro in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, August 20th, and when asked to set the record straight about her daughter’s marriage, she actually responded. “Haters gonna be haters and there’s nothing we can do about that,” she said. And, when asked if everything is ok between Bey and Jay, she said, “Everything is perfect,” adding that she “just doesn’t read the bull,” in reference to gossip about the powerhouse couple’s separation. Here’s hoping Mama Knowles isn’t giving us bull.
For those of us (yes, me included) on the coconut oil bandwagon, an article titled “7 Foods That Can Trigger Acne,” published by Yahoo Beauty this week, says that the comedrogenic oil is connected to acne, which obviously isn’t good news for those of us (yes, me included again) with acne-prone skin. “A lot of people are shocked to hear about this one,” Yap Tan, founder of Skin Salvation, an acne clinic in San Francisco, says. “But not only does coconut oil clog pores around the mouth, it also creates a stubborn kind of inflammation—usually on the cheeks and along the jawline.” This doesn’t just stand true for coconut oil that’s applied topically but also that which is ingested with food. Sigh! Other foods that made the list include: coffee, sugar, bread, dairy and soy.
