Whilst media slores have been stalking out backstage at Jay-Z and Beyonce’s On The Run tour, another couple apparently has been going through some serious drama. According to Page Six, TMZ, E! News and now the entire tabloid world, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are headed for divorce after only six years of marriage. Surprise…
Page Six broke the story on Wednesday, citing sources that claimed Nick and Mariah were “living separately.” Not a good sign for any couple. “He’s been living out of hotels,” one source said. “They’re fighting a lot.” Another source says Mariah suspects that Nick is cheating on her, and she’s been keeping a close watch. Rumor has it that she hired security to accompany him while he hosted parties in Vegas. “The security guard wasn’t there to keep the girls away from him. It was to keep him away from the girls,” said the source. If true, that sure as heck beats rummaging through text messages. A new and improved tactic for checking up on your man. But the cheating rumors have gone both ways. Last year, there was one that claimed Mariah Carey was having an affair with rapper Nas? Nick put that rumor to bed quickly.
TMZ wanted in on the gossip, and just a day after Page Six’s big reveal, they cited sources who shed a little more light on the story. Back in March, Nick did a radio interview with L.A.’s Power 106 Big Boy Radio. During the interview, Big Boy (someone who apparently cares little about Nick’s marriage) offered Nick a game called “Gimme 5” and asked him about five celebs he had slept with. Nick grabbed the bait like a wiggly little fish in the ocean with no brain. He easily ran off five names, one of which was Kim Kardashian. TMZ sources say Mariah no likey. Mysteriously, the video is now harder to find that a needle in a haystack. (Beyonce ain’t the only one with a secret service-type agency of fanatics). Remember, Nick tried to backtrack later by saying Mariah “didn’t even know who Kim Kardashian is.” Imagine what Kanye thinks about all this.
Page Six fired back with a list of six signs that the Cannons’ marriage is finito. A social media study of Mariah’s Instagram shows no photos of Nick since June. And while Mariah seems happy chilling in the hot tub with her twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott, Nick used to be a “fixture” on his wife’s page.
Their reps are, of course, declining comment, but Mariah’s house in the Bahamas and her house in Bel Air are both on the market. Nick has spoken about divorce rumors in the past, dismissing them. “You have to kind of ignore it because every week it’s something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you. There’s no merit or truth to it….and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers.” We hope so.
Nick, 33, and Mariah, 45, got married back in 2008, and though they appeared to be madly in love, their marriage raised some eyebrows because of their age difference. In 2011, Mariah gave birth to “dem babies,” a super cute set of fraternal twins who now have their own website (www.dembabies.com). (The site actually links to the Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Mariah, which is worth mentioning that the singer has generously supported to.) But back to the scandalous coverage…In Touch Weekly actually got in on the story late last month. They had a source that said Mariah was meeting with divorce lawyers behind closed doors. Their source also mentioned that Nick was passive, that he wouldn’t pull the trigger on a divorce, but also wouldn’t go down without a fight. “He wants a chunk of her $500 million fortune.” Fame costs?
