MommyNoire’s Coffee Break: 6 Things You Need To Know This Week

July 24, 2014  |

While taking your coffee break today, moms, can you remember back to when your child took their first steps? Just a couple of weeks after turning one-year-old, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West’s daughter North took her first steps. According to Kim’s Instagram, North walked for the first time as she got out the pool following her first week of swimming lessons. Kim posted a picture of herself kissing a yellow-towel-covered North, taken by ‘Ye, shortly after the milestone moment. “Mommy & Daddy are so proud of you!!!!” she wrote.

According to a new study to be published in the August issue of “Anesthesia & Analgesia”, women who receive an epidural during childbirth significantly reduce their risk of postpartum depression. The study, involving 214 women, discovered that those whose pain was managed during labor had a 14 percent rate of depression six weeks after delivery, while those who did not have pain relief had a nearly 35 percent rate. The study also found that women who attended childbirth classes during pregnancy and those who breastfed after labor also lowered their risk of postpartum depression.

Beyonce doesn’t tend to publicly respond to gossip about her and her family… but she will entertain them by way of subliminals via her Instagram account. The “Crazy in Love” singer (who recently re-worked said track for the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey flick, by the way – more on that later) posted a picture of who appears to be her and husband Jay-Z jointly swinging daughter Blue Ivy while in Houston recently just as rumors of their alleged separation began to take steam on the interweb. Keeping it classy, Bey.

Cue Pharrell’s “Happy”! Just as the summer begins to really (we mean REALLY) heat up, this young soul reminds us life is a party and we must dance like no one (or everyone?) is watching. A video of an elderly gentleman throwing his forearm crutches to the ground and then throwing down on the dance floor went viral this week. And, although we don’t know much else about the clip, other than that it was posted by Facebook user Edgard Eleuterio Daza, we do know it will most certainly put a smile on our viewers’ faces.

Women of the world, near and far, it is finally here: the Universal Pictures’ “50 Shades of Grey” trailer has arrived! The movie adaptation of the E.L. James’ best-selling erotic novel, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, premiered on NBC’s “Today”show alongside special guests Jamie Dornan (who plays Christian Grey) and Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele). The 2:17-long clip finds Dornan’s Grey seducing Johnson’s Steele and introducing her to the “red room of pain”, among other hot and steamy scenes. The only thing that won’t have the ladies excited – pun intended – after watching the video is that, although the movie was originally slated to hit theaters next month, it will now be released February 13, 2015. But trust us at Mommy Noire when we say it is absolutely worth the wait!

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby, which gives employers the right to deny coverage for birth control to their employees, “Girls” Lena Dunham took to her personal Twitter to share with her followers why she is an advocate of the pill, and asked others to share why they use contraceptives, too. “I need birth control because I have endometriosis and it helps manage pain. Why do you?” she wrote. Responses immediately began popping up on Dunham’s feed, from one tweeter saying she did not want any more children to another revealing her periods are heavy and painful, among other reasons.
