Watch It: Pharrell “Come Get It Bae”
In case you didn’t know, Pharrell Williams officially owns the year 2014! With the March 3rd release of his first solo album in eight years, Pharrell’s latest masterpiece Girl celebrates the handsome and never-aging producer/artists love of well…girls! With a list of tracks that detail his desire for a different “type” of woman to his videos which showcase the diversity and beauty of women all shades, shapes, ethnicities and ages, it’s safe to say that Mr. Williams can really “do anything we like”, which coincidentally is the first line to the latest jam from Pharrell “Come Get it Bae.”
With sexually suggestive lyrics that compare the act of love making to riding a motorcycle one may think that the video for Pharrell’s “Come Get it Bae” would be filled with sexualized images of women gyrating or twerking due to the slight, but well-placed, feature of Miley Cyrus on the track. Instead, the treatment for the clip is sexy, intuitive and innovative, which is a direct reflection of Williams’s entire being. With his signature falsetto, Pharrell tells us to “come get it bae” and reminds us that we can “Ride his motorcycle…but take it easy on the clutch, cause girl I like you.”
But it gets better, with the help of the talented Fatima Robinson (you know her, she is responsible for choreographing Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” and the late Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody?”), the video is centered around a mock audition with a diverse collection of everyday women performing Robinson’s choreography to William’s song as he records them with a camera. Each woman interprets the dance moves in her own way which lets us know that sexy is a state of mind. An upbeat and funky track that pairs infectious refrains with a video that you can’t help but dance with, there is no doubt that when you finish watching you may be inclined to “go get it”!
