Keke Palmer is grown and the singer/actress recently made history as the youngest TV host to ever have her own talk show. The 20-year-old has been preparing for the debut of her show set for June 30 on BET called “Just Keke.” The childhood star of Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson VP” can’t wait to start discussing social issues and popular culture on her new show.
“I was inspired to do this show based on my life situations and what I was going through,” she says. “Growing up, I never really got a chance to socialize or talk to people my age because I was home-schooled since the fifth grade. I just feel like young people aren’t really talking about anything. Everything is about living the ‘ratchet lifestyle,’ ” she says. “There is nothing out there right now that is feeding the intellectual side of my generation.”
Judge Mathis is one of the executive producers of the show. Keke says Mathis was the first person to believe in the project and teamed up with her father to bring the show idea to fruition. Keke continues to say she is doing this show for the generation of kids who aren’t having conversations about real issues.
“This show isn’t about me, it’s about my generation,” she says. “Young people don’t realize all the possibilities in life. I truly believe that we can do anything. “We don’t need adults to talk to us; we should be talking to each other and figuring out our problems ourselves.”
