$30 Million Debut: Think Like a Man Too Dances At The Top
If it wasn’t Kevin Hart’s dancing around the room in clad boxers, maybe it was Michael Ealy’s eyes or the simple desire for a few good laughs, but Think Like a Man Too was a box officer winner this weekend beating out The Jersey Boys opening.
And while it had a good opening and is still going strong, the sequel did not beat out its first run Think Like a Man which made $33.6 million its opening weekend in 2012. The sequel came across a few harsh reviewers, but it seems as though Hart’s fans are pretty faithful. The heavy-hitting cast includes a slew of great smiles Terrance Jenkins, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Jennifer Lewis, Taraji P. Hensen, Romany Malco, Gary Owen, Gabrielle Union, La La Anthoy and mpre.
On survey site Rotten Apples, TLAMT too only earned a 22 percent approval rating from critics. But pollsters over at CinemaScore rated the comedy an A minus. Looks like the moviegoers enjoy a lot more than the reviewers. And while the story-line was simplistic there were enough enjoyable moments to make the film worth the ticket. From chemistry amongst Ealy and Henson to the tension of Hall and monster-in-law Lewis we get a few good heart-felt scenes amongst the fun.
“It’s not bad being number one,” said Rory Bruer, Sony Pictures president of worldwide distribution. “The girls versus the guys element and getting the perspective of both sexes is something that’s always appealing to folks.”
