Though we still can’t get over “Adorn” we’re happy to move on to newer music and visuals from Miguel like his latest release “Simplethings” from his, get this, 2012 album Kaleidoscope Dream. We didn’t realize his sophomore album was two years old! He’s been doing so much touring and guest appearances with Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae, and most recently Santana, that we forget he hasn’t released a full album in two years!
But we’re loving this treat. The guitar-heavy, yet simple track appears on the soundtrack for the hit HBO show “Girls,” but the singer decided to wait a few months to drop the black and white clip…which we’re feeling. No crazy effects, nothing over-dramatic here, the song and lyrics just dictate the video:
Smoke with me baby
And lay with me baby
Laugh with me baby
I just want the simple things
Though his fans would have preferred to see his longtime love, Nazanin Mandi, as the video’s leading lady (she appeared in Miguel’s steamy “Do You” video, more about that below), he chose GiGi Hadid, the model daughter of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Yolanda Foster and real estate mogul Mohamed Hadid.
Miguel took to Instagram (@miguelunlimited) this week to explain more about the 4-minute artsy film:
“I shot the video for #simplethings for my fans as a thank you for being patient and also for showing so much love for the song. What’s your favorite thing about the video?” he said.
Fans didn’t hesitate to holler back at him with responses, including:
“when you smile :)”
“just danced to this song at my wedding…everyone was talking about it and asking me about the song!!”
“Nazanin Mandi should be the main girl for all of your videos. Makes it more real.”
“love the parallel of the wolves and the couple”
“edgy, artsy, totally you”
“the video is simple, not complicated and illustrates them searching and only wanting each other”
So, what do you think about the “Simplethings” song and video?
