Mommy Mash Up: Sherri Shepherd’s Husband Says Marriage Was Fraud

May 10, 2014  |

There’s a lot of news to report from the Shepherd camp. First, The View co-host’s husband of four years, Lamar Sally has filed for legal separation. Second is that the couple is expecting their first child together this July—but Sherri isn’t pregnant, the duo used a surrogate mom to carry the child. Which brings us to the final element (for now) of the story—Sal wants full legal and physical custody of the baby once he or she is born, with Sherri only receiving visitation rights.

The news comes as a shock as Sherri and Lamar have been notorious for gushing about one another since they met at a mutual friend’s event years ago. From that meeting, the two developed a friendship, later a relationship and in a 2011 ceremony held in Chicago the two wed. This marriage was Sherri’s second. She divorced her first husband Jeff Tarpley (the father of her oldest child, Jeffrey) in 2010 after eight years of marriage when reports of his infidelity surfaced.

One can only imagine the cause of the couple’s current rift. It seems, however, to be a rather messy situation. For instance, Lamar also wants the talk show host and comedienne to pay spousal support and wants their prenup invalidated on the basis of fraud. Fraud? We’re sure to soon find out Lamar’s basis behind that claim.

Anyone with any type of familiarity with the family court system knows these two have quite a long road ahead of them as lawyers and a judge must filter through allegations, documents and facts to determine proper judgment. With their child having an expected due date of July 28th, presumably in the midst of a media frenzy and tough legal process, one can only imagine the stress and anxiety these two are going to face as they battle it out.

We wish them the best!
