Veil Lifted: Kim Kardashian Recognizes Racism with Biracial Daughter

May 9, 2014  |

Just a few days ago, on May 7th, the new mom and reality star Kim Kardashian blogged about a topic we rarely hear her cover, racism. Ever since Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed baby daughter North in June 2013, not only has she changed physically, but mentally as well.

The new mom said she never really had to think about race until now, as she experiences the world in a new way. The 33-year-old shared her concerns on raising a biracial child.

“It’s a beautiful thing to feel and experience so much more, but with that beauty comes a flip side – seeing through my daughter’s eyes the side of life that isn’t always so pretty.”

While we’ve known the Kardashian to stick more to the pretties, mother hood has introduced a new mindset for the fashion-savvy mom.

“To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought. It is obviously a topic that Kanye is passionate about, but I guess it was easier for me to believe that it was someone else’s battle. But recently, I’ve read and personally experienced some incidents that have sickened me and made me take notice. I realize that racism and discrimination are still alive, and just as hateful and deadly as they ever have been.”

Kardashian noted that as a mother and public figure she feels a responsibility to make sure not only her child, but all children do not have to face discrimination.

” I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing. So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn’t my issue or my problem, because it is, it’s everyone’s.”
