Mommy Mash-Up: KeKe Palmer Makes History With New Talk Show

April 28, 2014  |

You can’t keep a good (young) woman down and 20-year-old actress and singer Keke Palmer has been on a roll.

After starring as Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas in the TLC biopic, Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story on VH1 last year, the former Nickelodeon star (remember her from True Jackson, VP?) has just been named the host of her own talk show this summer on BET tentatively titled The Keke Palmer Project, making her the youngest talk show host in television history.

The initial four-week run will premiere on the network in July and film in Los Angeles. The show will include celebrity interviews as well as cover topics important to Palmer and her generation like social issues, pop culture, fashion, sex, and more. While our initial thought was, how much can a 20-year-old say about social issues, sex and more, we think it’ll be refreshing to have a new, young perspective and positive outlet for our young people…anything is better than the low, low levels of “entertainment” that reality television is serving these days.

Keke’s passion for discussing various issues via social media is one of the many reasons why she has decided to venture into daytime television. “I like to read quotes that touch on how I am feeling,” she noted in the press release. “If I am dealing with confusion, I will read quotes about clarity and peace of mind. I started posting these quotes on my Twitter page, and the fans responded so positively!”

“I realized that many of them were dealing with similar issues, and the quotes helped to open up a genuine dialogue between us.”

The series will be executive produced by Judge Greg Mathis who helped form a relationship with Palmer and producer Telepictures, which produces Judge Mathis as well as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Bethenny, TMZ Live, Extra, and The People’s Court.

In addition to the talk show, Keke can be seen in the horror film Animal this summer (on the set, above), as well as an upcoming six-episode arc on the next season of Showtime’s Masters of Sex.

We think Keke Palmer is a great choice for a young talk show host…do you think she’ll be able to handle her new role?
