“You Can Be Anything You Want To Be”
Thankfully, this is one lie that is becoming less and less prevalent. Before 2008, many of us black or white would say to our parents that one day we would be president. Our parents would look at us, agree outwardly; but on the inside would be hoping that we would actually could one day. The truth is that socioeconomic status, one’s environment, education, race, gender, religion, and a myriad of other things do come into play and make this dream very unlikely. Even if it is improbable we now can believe that this or almost any other career is in fact possible.
