A Fresh Start For Summer!: 5 Tips For Carving Out Me Time Now
As a working mom of a 19-month-old boy, to say that I am constantly busy would be an understatement. Quite frankly, the word “busy” has been used to describe me way before my son was even born. However, since he’s been here I have found that word being used to describe my life way more than I could have ever imagined.
Outside of the craziness that ensues from being both a wife and a mother, I also stay on the move due to the demands of managing my career and running my mommy blog. I’m telling you ladies, it just always seems like something is going on in my life. From the 5:00 a.m. alarm clock waking me up to work on the blog post of the day, to weekly 10:00 am Saturday morning swim lessons with my son, there is just always something that has to be done.
It wasn’t until recently that I was honest with myself and admitted that I was extremely tired. My close family had been telling me for months that I needed to take some me time, that I needed to slow down and take a break for myself. Although I knew this was very true, the mommy in me would not let me slow down. I felt that I could handle this; that as a mom it was in my DNA to stay on-the-go, be that superwoman. However, what I’ve finally come to realize is that although I’m clearly handling it, I could be a better version of myself if I stopped and carved out a little “mommy time,” at least every once in a while. Like I said earlier, my son is now 19-months-old, so the anxiety and guilt that I once had about leaving him when he was only four-months-old is not as bad. Trust me, leaving him still gets to me, but I can deal a little better with saying goodbye to go get a fresh manicure and pedicure!
What I’ve promised myself is that this summer I will carve out, at least once a week, a little time for myself. So, with this new promise in mind, I’ve pulled together five ideas for getting little me-time for yourself this season and beyond!
