What’s Trendin’ Now: Orange Lipstick 2014

A pop of orange on the mouth will get you rave reviews and all of the right kind of attention. However, poor lipstick application (especially in the wrong shade) will scream, “Look at me, I’m a clown.”  What is the key to looking less like your crazed Great Aunt? It’s all about color selection, lip prepping, application and balance. There is a perfect shade of orange lipstick for each and every one of us.

Prep Grab some coconut, olive or vitamin E oil and mix it in your hand with a little sugar. Apply to lips and gently scrub in small, circular motions; rinse with water. This removes dead, dry skin leaving your lips smooth and soft. Follow up with a light layer of lip balm for hydration. Application Prime your lips with foundation; the helps your lipstick last longer and keeps it from settling into any lip lines, on or around your lips. Line your lips to prevent color bleeding; use a neutral liner for sheer and light oranges. You can apply bold colors with a lip brush for better control to ensure even application. Balance Any bold lip color must be balanced by a neutral eye – neutral eye, not a naked eye – to avoid causing your face to appear bottom heavy. Balance your makeup by sweeping a natural shadow across your lid followed by 2-3 coats of mascara. Are you bold enough to rock a bold lip? Tweet us a picture at @MommyNoire of your favorite shade!
