The Surprising Juicy J Twerking Scholarship Winner

We all rolled our eyes and SMHed when Juicy J announced he was giving away a $50,000 scholarship for twerking in partnership with World Star Hip Hop. But the Juicy J twerking scholarship winner is a big–pleasant–surprise. Nineteen-year-old Zaire Holmes is a hard-working single mom and student who didn’t shake nothin’; instead, she made a thoughtful video about her academic ambitions. And she won.

Being the smart woman she is, Holmes read the rules carefully and they actually indicated all contestants had to do was make a YouTube video saying why they deserved the scholarship. With the help of friends, family and professors, she explained she wanted to transfer from State College of Florida to transfer to either the University of Florida or the University of South Florida so she can study medicine. The full scholarship amount went to her next year’s tuition.

When asked why he chose Holmes as opposed to what I imagine one of hundreds of pretty, big-booty applicants? “Fifty-thousand is a lot of money. And I just don’t wanna waste it on some chick twerking her ass,” Juicy J explained. Okay, that seems silly and hypocritical, when you a) called it a twerking scholarship and b) spend your whole career talking about how much money you spend on women shaking it at the strip club, but we’ll let it slide. It’s good to see the money go to someone who’s following her dreams all while raising a child. Congratulations to Ms. Holmes!
