Women in Capitol Hill Attack Suffered Severe Postpartum Depression
Miriam Carey was shot and killed after ramming her car into the gates at the White House. Now, it’s been discovered that Carey suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter.
Carey, 34, was a dental hygienist from Stamford, Connecticut and mother to a 1-year-old daughter. Carey’s mother Idella Carey told ABC, “She had postpartum depression after having the baby.” She and her Carey’s coworkers also confirmed Carey wasn’t a violent person. She did, however reveal that her daughter had been hospitalized for her PPD. Records also indicate police had been called to Carey’s home in December of last year because her boyfriend said she’d been active erratically and he feared his daughter’s life was in life.
Reports also indicate that Carey believed President Obama was monitoring her activity electronically. They found no weapons in her car or any clue as to why she’d targeted the White House. Her daughter was in the car when Carey attacked the White House and led the police on a chase ending at Capitol Hill. Her daughter has since been placed into protective custody.
