Seattle Father Inject Himself and Son with Heroin on Day He Finalized Divorce
Divorce is a devastating thing, but this is just truly horrifying. Thirty-seven-year-old Eric Emil Lehtinen injected himself and his 4-year-old son with a mixture of heroin in an attempted murder-suicide, reports Seattle Pi. Lehtinen has been charged with first-degree attempted murder; his bail has been set at $3 million.
The boy’s mother was the one to find her soon-to-be ex-husband and her son:
The man’s soon-to-be ex-wife found Eric Emil Lehtinen, 37, and their son on a bed in a locked Redmond house on Tuesday. They were unconscious.
The woman removed a blanket from the little boy to find a syringe apparently filled with drugs on his chest, court documents say. Firefighters arrived and despite their efforts neither the father nor child was responsive. The boy was taken to Seattle Children’s and his father to a local hospital.
Lehtinen has since been removed from the hospital but his son hasn’t yet been released. Lehtinen and the boy’s mother were married for 6 years and it was she who filed for divorce. The attempted murder-suicide happened on the day the divorce had been finalized. According to court documents, Lehtinen had tried to delay the finalization of the delay but wasn’t successful.
This poor family. It’s such a tragedy. Despite how the dad felt, he shouldn’t have dragged his son into it.
