Should This Girl Have Been Kicked Out of Camp for Kissing a Boy?
Ah, to be a teen and have the summer off. So much time to spend with friends and maybe even a special someone, if you’re lucky. A 15-year-old girl had her dreams of a great summer, and even a summer romance, crushed when she was kicked out of her camp last month for kissing a boy, reports the Associated Press.
The girl and her parents, both unnamed in the lawsuit, are seeking $600,000 in damages from Camp Emerson in Massachusetts for “negligent infliction of emotional distress, defamation ” and other claims. She and the boy were accused of promiscuous behavior.
No Camp Emerson officials responded to the AP’s attempts to contact them. But if, in fact, this girl was kicked out of camp for kissing a boy, maybe they deserved to be sued. A camp that claims one of its main values is “respecting the child” can’t demonize kissing with something so drastic as kicking them out of a program (and flushing hundreds of her parents’ dollars down the toilet in the process). And this girl isn’t the first to sneak a kiss at summer camp; she certainly won’t be the last. Honestly, the counselors are lucky that’s all that was going on in the bushes.
Besides, it’s sexist and unfair. It doesn’t seem like anything happened to the boy involved, and it’s not like a girl can kiss herself.
Do you think she should’ve been kicked out of her summer program?
