When Jackie Johnson-Smith went out for pizza with her husband and three children in Des Moines, she wasn’t expecting anything special. But the family’s waitress gave them an incredible surprise–she paid for their pizza as a thank you for breastfeeding.

When her 1-year-old became fussy, Johnson-Smith quickly pulled out her breastfeeding cover and began nursing. Waitress Bodi Kinney immediately took notice and was so happy by what she saw. When the family went to pay for their meal, Kinney already had it covered and wrote on the receipt, “I bought one of your pizzas. Please thank your wife for breastfeeding!” Her kind gesture has since spread across the web.

“I think the reason it went viral is just a testament to how deeply nursing mothers want that acceptance for themselves,” Johnson told CNN. “They were touched by it because they also want that affirmation that what they’re doing is okay.”

How have people responded to you for breastfeeding in public?
