Shaq Opening a Hospital for Kids in Baton Rouge
Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is leaving an important legacy off the courts. When O’Neal (who earned a Ed. D in education last year) was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame, he took the chance to make an impromptu announcement about his next venture. Mommyish shared the news that Dr. O’Neal plans to open a children’s hospital in Baton Rouge, a city that could definitely use some good news right about now.
He told the crowd,
“I wasn’t supposed to announce this, but I’m going to do it anyway. I had a talk with the powers that be in Baton Rouge, and my plan is to build a Shaquille O’Neal children’s hospital. That’s my plan, so that right now is in the works, and hopefully it gets done.”
He said the plan had been in the works for two years. He hopes “all sick children can come for free”. It’s always so nice to see stars, and even regular people, help those in need. Louisiana recently cut $260 million on hospital spending. Gov. Bobby Jindal has rejected major funding the state could receive through Medicare expansion, saying the Affordable Care Act is too “inflexible.” That means hospitals have had to scramble to look for private funding. Shaq’s hospital will help tons of sick children and we hope the project moves along with no problems.
