“GODDESSGASM™” with Tomiko Fraser Hines: The Great Breast Pump Caper
Have you ever had one of THOSE days as a mother? You know what I’m talking about. The ones where if just one more thing goes wrong, you might just be the cover story on the next day’s newspaper. Well, I had one of those days recently.
The madness began when I found out that I booked a modeling gig in New York with a major cosmetic company. Yippee! But that meant that I’d need to be away from my 4 1/2 month old twin boys for the first time. What?!?! Thankfully, this was to be a short trip, and I’d only be gone for a day and half. But a day and half away from your infant sons when you’re a new mommy might as well be 3 years. And to make matters worse, my husband was out of town and my brother was out of the country. Which meant there was no one I REALLY trusted to leave the boys alone with for that amount of time. Yet, I couldn’t turn down the job because, to be honest, we need the money. So I went with the next best thing, our Mother’s Helper. She’s been working with us for 3 months and is wonderful with the boys. But she’s never had to take care of them, on her own, for more than a few hours at a time.
To help alleviate my angst and satisfy my Type-A personality, I wrote a very detailed 3-page list for the Mother’s Helper to follow. I thought of absolutely everything and was very proud of my list. Reading it over with our Mother’s Helper actually put my mind at ease….a bit. After tearfully kissing my sons goodbye, I was off.
