Pieces of a Man: From Father To Mother: An Open Letter

May 14, 2013  |

Mother’s Day is a joyous occasion for many, especially for those whose parents follow the traditional path of caretaker and provider. Sadly in 2013, the traditional mother we knew has become a thing of the past. In this new era of motherhood, we bear witness to things that may have happened, but may have been kept hidden. In summary, the mother has evolved – thanks to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and so forth…

Because I have a daughter whose innocence I would love to preserve, I have written an open letter to mothers of this millenium:

Dear Mother of my kids,

Please Don’t Twerk.

I know this may sound crazy, but I’d be crazy if I didn’t say this. We often forget to realize that our kids, yours and mine, are big old sponges. We, as a generation of parents in our varied ages and backgrounds, are responsible for what’s to come. Granted, we are a more selfish generation (more on that later), but twerking should not be a part of your selfishness. Basically, I don’t want our kids to learn “making it clap” as some societal mores…
