Mother’s Day is approaching, meaning there are a lot of cliches to be had. Motherhood is the best thing to happen to me, my husband and 2.5 children. While that’s the truth for a lot of families, it isn’t the norm for the women featured in Untold Stories of Motherhood, the miniseries presented by Oxygen’s I’m Having Their Baby. Through short documentaries, we learn about mothers with touching stories, even though their families wouldn’t be on the front of a Hallmark card. From the mother with an open adoption and two children she parents to the woman coparenting with a gay couple, these stories are unconventional but they all share a common thread: very real, very deep love.

Said one woman in the series, “The only way I can make this motherhood thing work is to do it on my own terms.” Amen to that.
