If you feel sleepy during the day (and let’s face it, most of us are), it may not have anything with how much you actually sleep. Researchers at Penn State found adults were most tired after eating foods with a high fat content.
The study focused on 31 non-obese adults between ages 18 and 65 who didn’t have existing sleep disorders. Subjects spent four days sleeping in a sleep lab and on the fourth day had five meals. Researchers found those in the study who consumed foods high in fat reported feeling more sleepy overall, but those who had more carbohydrates felt more alert.
So skip the fried snacks and opt for a slice of whole wheat toast. It’ll help you power through your afternoon meetings.
