Oops! Boy Gets Left in Museum After School Field Trip
It’s every kid’s (and parent’s) nightmare: having the school bus drive away after a field trip without you. Unfortunately for 4-year-old AJ, that’s exactly what happened when he went with his class to the Children’s Museum of South Dakota.
The boy’s class left Marshall, Minnesota for the museum just over the border. They had a great time but it wasn’t until the bus had driven over an hour back to school that teachers and chaperones realized AJ was missing. AJ’s mom Jacqueline Whylly said it was her “worst nightmare” to hear her child had been left behind. She was especially worried because AJ struggles with speech delays.
The Marshall Public Schools superintendent issued an apology during a press conference with a local TV station and also explained the field trip protocol hadn’t been followed in the case of little AJ. Students are supposed to be counted before boarding the bus and again when everyone’s been seated. Administrators met to discuss possible changes to the field trip procedures.
