C is for Crazy: Man in Cookie Monster Costume Assaults Toddler
Little kids love getting their picture taken with their favorite cartoon character and none of them ever dream he’ll be mean. But that’s just what happened 2-year-old Samay when he tried to have his picture taken with a man in a Cookie Monster costume in New York’s Times Square, TODAY reported.
Bollywood actress Parmita Burada was strolling through Times Square with her husband and her son when Samay asked to have his picture taken with Puss in Boots. Other costumed actors came over, asking for a photo with the boy but it was Cookie Monster who picked him up and insisted on a picture. Burada asked husband Sagar to get money from the ATM so she could pay for a photo but she told reporters, that wasn’t enough; he began yelling at her and demanding money. Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez, dressed as Cookie, reportedly told the scared mother, “You are a b—-, your son is a b—— and your stuff is trash.” He then pushed Samay’s stroller so hard, he fell out of it.
Apparently this Cookie Monster wasn’t listening to Sesame Street’s numerous lessons about sharing. Quiroz-Lopez now has $1,000 bail and has been charged with assault and child endangerment. It should be noted that the costumed characters in Times Square and other tourist hot spots in New York are in no way affiliated with Sesame Street. But geez, Cookie; not even Oscar the Grouch is this nasty. Samay is no longer a fan of the blue furball because “Cookie Monster gave me a boo-boo.”
