Different children will process the situation in different ways and many factors affect their reactions including age and how long the parent is incarcerated. Teach them to articulate their feelings so that you don’t mistake embarrassment as anger. Encourage them to process feelings through talking, writing journals or healthy expressions of emotion like crying.
