Is it okay if the child speaks openly about a parent’s incarceration or will you choose to keep things more private? Kids can be cruel, so it’s important to prepare kids for the fact that kids may say mean things about an incarcerated parent and make assumptions that simply aren’t true. Teach your child how to defend themselves and provide them with plenty of love and support so they can be confident about their family even when others may tease them about it.
