Children may have feelings of resistance or defiance, especially if the parent has been away for some time. As a parent, you’ll probably have difficulty with the transition of living with a partner again as well as re-establishing your roles in the household. For a child, this experience can be doubly frustrating. Parents can sometimes dismiss a child’s right to have feelings and a role in the household. Children become accustomed to routines and their personal space and it’s important to respect that. Understand that changes have to be gradual, and both parents should expect some conflicts along the way.
