My 30-Day Juicing Reboot

At the beginning of every year women the world around make resolutions to change their lifestyle and get their pre-baby body back. Many women decide to kick off their lifestyle change with some type of detox or reboot. As a part of my New Year’s resolution to not only lose weight, but to also lead a healthy lifestyle, I’ll be doing a 30-day juicing reboot. This is phase one of my journey back to health and my pre-baby body. For 30 days I’ll be juicing nothing but fresh fruits and vegetables in efforts to cleanse and reprogram my body. For the next 30-days my life will be an open book.

I’ve Gained 40 Pounds. How Did I get here?

I’ve pretty much been between 125-132 pounds for most of my adult life. I’m currently 165 pounds, which is a lot of weight for such a short person (I’m 5’ 1”).  My weight gain started with marriage. Before jumping the broom I was a pretty healthy eater. I didn’t eat red meat or pork and I steamed pretty much everything else I ate. After I got married I started cooking more calorie-dense foods to satisfy my husbands appetite. Before I knew it, I gained 10 pounds. Three months into my marriage I found out I was pregnant. That’s when the “eating for two” began. I gained over 40 pounds during my first pregnancy and I ended my pregnancy at about 173 pounds. After delivery I got down to about 148 pounds, but the stress of being a new wife and having to care for a newborn got the best of me. I didn’t eat well. I didn’t workout. Before I knew it I was back up to 169 pounds, but this time I didn’t have a baby inside my belly to blame for it.

Fast forward to today. I have two children and I am still 165 pounds. I’ve lost weight here and there, only to gain it back. I’ve made excuses for myself year after year, citing kids and a busy schedule for my lack of progress. Can I be frank? I’m tired of making excuses. I’m tired of not feeling comfortable in my own skin. I’m tired of being tired. I’m over it. I’m only 33 years old and I want my health and my body back and I’m going to get them both back, too.  Just wait and see.

My juicing detox begins Monday, January 7th.  It is the first step on the journey to a healthier, happier me. I’m not going to let marriage, kids or my busy schedule keep me from being the very best me.
