“Shacking Up” Before Marriage – Bad Idea?
Shacking Up – Most of us are familiar with the term, and may have been shacking up in the past, or are quite possibly shacking up in the present.
*Ouch* Most pastors and parents will frown upon the practice though it’s far more acceptable than it has been in decades past. I have shacked up and I had my reasons. Am I proud of it? Eh. More than anything, I was not in a comfortable place with myself and used companionship from a man to fill voids in my life.
My opinion of shacking vs. getting married has changed. In 2012, I’m a different woman than I was when my divorce was finalized in 2004. I have a much better grasp on life with respect to my spirituality, and I am at a point where I’m not looking for a whole lot of approval from anyone. My kids are getting older and in the event I decide marriage is not for me again, I believe I can still be an exceptional role model without tying the knot.
Do you feel guilty about shacking up or are you judgmental of those who have or currently do?
