Walmart Will Have A Sale To Rival Amazon’s “Prime Day”
Walmart has announced a mega sale on Wednesday that will include “more than 2,000 online exclusive ‘rollbacks,'” USA Today reports. Discounted items will include everything from toys to electronics and remain at the “rollback” price for 90 days. And as of today, the minimum purchase total to qualify for free shipping drops from $50 to $35 for at least the next 30 days.
The new discounts come hot on the heels of Amazon’s announced Prime Day. To celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary, Amazon is offering discounts to Prime members this Wednesday, a sale the company says will rival Black Friday, the official kick off to the holiday season. It’s also a good way to encourage people to become Prime members. A membership costs $99.
In a blog post published today, Walmart said:
If you’ve shopped Walmart.com, you’ll know that every day is a special day where everyone has access to the same low prices we offer. We mean everyone: you, your neighbor, your boss, your best friend … all of whom are looking for the best price on the things they want and need. We’ve heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access to a sale. But the idea of asking customers to pay extra in order to save money just doesn’t add up for us.
USA Today points out that Walmart has been playing catch up with Amazon with respect to e-commerce. So this is an opportunity for them to hit Amazon. Target also has a “Black Friday in July” sale that ends today.
This is great for consumers, but also begs the question of whether Black Friday will be as big this year as it has been in past years if it’s being outdone by summer sales. Thoughts?
