All signs seem to be pointing to the fact that the glory days are over for “The View.” But it looks like the show’s executives and ABC are not ready to throw in the towel. Instead, they seem to be grasping at straws, trying to make this sinking ship float again.
After the most recent departure of Rosie Perez, the Daily Mail is reporting that sources close to the show have said that Sherri Shepherd is in the process of inking a deal with ABC that would bring her back to the daytime talk show.
Apparently, Shepherd will come back as one of the show’s rotating co-hosts, sitting in the fifth position. According to the current plans, Sherri will host at least twice a week.
This wouldn’t be the first time Sherri found her way back to the table. After leaving in August, Shepherd was asked to sit on the panel again on May 28. Her appearance on the show was met with rave reviews from ABC News executives.
A network source told The Daily Mail,
“Though the show was taped in advance and Whoopi Goldberg was out dealing with the death of her brother, everyone was blown away by how Sherri brought the energy of a live broadcast to the taped show. She had been so missed by the producers that many of them cried when she walked in the building,”
You may remember that as Sherri was giving her exit speech, she said that Biblically seven is the number of completion, representing the seven years she sat on the panel from 2007-2014.
If the rumors are indeed true, this sounds like the contract is not that binding and will still leave her with the freedom to pursue other projects.
We’re all for a sista collecting her checks; and perhaps she could bring some sense to the panel, but, judging the current state of “The View” these days, do you think this is a good idea?
