Lauryn Hill Can’t Travel Across The Pond: Banned From Performing In England

July 13, 2015  |

In recent months, Lauryn Hill has been wowing fans new and old in New York, Philly and Los Angeles with her powerful performances. Unfortunately due to her past legal trouble with the IRS, she is unable to perform or even enter the United Kingdom. She shared on her Facebook page:

“Hello All,
I’ve been informed that I won’t be able to enter the UK for a period of time due to my past legal situation. For this reason I have to cancel my concert on July 15th. Know that I was looking forward to performing in London this summer, and that I appreciate all of my fans and supporters both in London, and throughout the UK. I look forward to seeing you again as soon as I’m able to.
Love and Respect,
MLH”

In the Facebook post, Hill is referring to her 2013 prison stint for tax evasion. The IRS says Hill did not pay more than $1 million in taxes over 10 years. Instead of paying, Hill served three months in federal prison.

Despite this recent setback, Hill is featured on a tribute album for the late Nina Simone titled “Nina Revisited” and will be touring in other European countries such as Italy, France and Spain.

Check out her cover of Nina Simone’s song, Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair, below.
