Last year, 2 Chainz garnered a lot of attention, with just a single line. And I’m not talking about a lyric.
The rapper was the talk of the internet when he embarrassed the hell out of a young lady who went to see someone in his entourage backstage. She was trying to speak to 2 Chainz’s friend, Cap 1, and during her search, 2 Chainz asked “Is This Yo Thot?”
Later, he put video of the incident on his personal blog, the phrase became a hashtag, and the woman in the video, Christina Chisholm, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was subsequently embarrassed.
So embarrassed, she’s hitting the rapper up for $5 million dollars.
According to WBTV, Chisholm has filed a lawsuit against 2 Chainz, whose government name is Tauheed Epps, and his friend Ro’Zay Richie, who goes by the name Cap 1.
Chisholm claims that the video has severely damaged her reputation and caused her to lose her job.
Chisholm claims that she was invited back stage by Cap 1. Once she got back there she was called a THOT (an acronym for “That Hoe Over There”). The video, when posted online, was watched more than ten million times with one million comments.
The lawsuit notes: “As a direct result of the video being posted online, Ms. Chisholm has been subject to harassment and verbal abuse in public.”
She also claims that once the video went viral, she was fired from her job.
She is seeking monetary damages in an excess of $5,000,000.
An attorney for 2 Chainz requested that the case be removed to federal court in July.
Well, well, well.
I don’t know if she’ll get five million, but I certainly think she’s entitled to something. 2 Chainz could have shown her to the door or even have her escorted out instead of resorting to personal attacks.
I absolutely abhor the word THOT. Not only because it’s misogynistic, but also because it rarely makes sense grammatically. I can’t wait for it to fade out of the lexicon.
Legally speaking though, if 2 Chainz had said it without video proof, we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now. Even if the video were only seen by a few hundred people, it wouldn’t have been such a big deal. But the fact that he uploaded it to his blog, to further humiliate this woman, on a world stage, was just cruel.
And now, perhaps he’ll have to pay for it.
