10 Things Every Plus-Size Woman Should Have In Her Closet

As a plus-size woman, I want to be confident and beautiful every day. The fashion world has become more accommodating to the plus-size fashionista and we now have more on-trend options that are both appealing to the eye and complementary to our body shape. For all the curvy beauties addicted to retail, here are 10 items you need to have in your boudoir.

Bold Swimwear

Summer is in full effect and the beach is buzzing with BBWs. Stand out and take a risk with a swimsuit in a bold color or print. Also consider a swimsuit with a unique cut like a racer back, a swimsuit with fringe, or a one-shoulder number. Some exemplary bathing suit designers for plus-size beauties this season include Monif C. and Nakimuli. The latter brand is behind the gorgeous look you see above.

Plunge Bra

Accentuating your cleavage for a night out on the town is a must. Plunge bras give you the lift you need without the bra playing peek-a-boo throughout the evening. These bras are perfect for evening gowns and low-cut necklines. Lane Bryant’s plunge bras by Cacique are my favorite and come in a variety of styles and colors.

High-Waist Wide-Leg Slacks

Two luxuries in one, comfort and tummy control high-waist wide-leg slacks are a closet must have. You can find them in a wide range of hues and prints. Try these slacks in a colorful design, or dress them up with a pair of heels for an evening out. You can even rock them with a pair of sandals for a day trip. Some of the most fashionable high-waist, wide-leg slacks this season are from Jibri, including the innovative bottoms you see before you.

“Moto” jacket

Unfortunately, we will be exiting summer soon and fall will be here before you know it. Amp up any of your fall favorites with a leather jacket. You can even get the Moto style in mixed textures with the arms of the jacket leather and body of the jacket polyester blend. Look out for a good leather jacket at a good price through ASOS Curve or Jessica London.

A Whimsical Cocktail Dress

Make room in your closet next to your standard black cocktail dress for a flirty yet whimsical cocktail gown that is just as darling as you are. Whether it’s a solid color or a printed dress slightly above the knee with a flared skirt, you will turn heads when you enter the party. Spice it up a bit with an exposed zipper to give them something extra to look at when you walk away. Some of my favorite cocktail dresses can be found at Eloquii (the brand behind the dress you see above) and Igigi.

The Right Shapewear

Finding the right shapewear can be a daunting task, but without the appropriate foundation garment, your entire look will be incomplete. Think of shapewear as the base of any building. Without a strong base the building will fall apart. The same goes for the overall look you are trying to achieve. Some of the best shapewear products are sold by Spanx and Avenue.

A Stashed Clutch Purse

A clutch purse is the perfect accessory to any outfit. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and prints. The clutch purse is just as important as the shoe when accessorizing. You can find some of the best handmade clutch purses from Stashed by My.

Boyfriend Jeans

The boyfriend jean is the most comfortable yet stylish jean to date. They range in denim shades and are often tapered and patched to give the distressed look. Don’t be afraid to pair them with a denim top of a different shade, just as Thamarr, the woman behind Musings of a Curvy Lady did. Match the jeans with a shoe, lip and a Stashed clutch purse in bold colors and you are ready for the world, honey.

The Block Heel

Just like diamonds, shoes are a girl’s best friend. The block heel can give you the height you want from a stiletto with the added support you need for your feet. Block heels are unique in structure and come in funky and abstract designs to spice up your wardrobe. Jeffrey Campbell is one of the top block heel designers out there.

Every woman should have pearls — pearl necklace, bracelet or earrings — to add to the element of ageless class and to complete a look. You can find pearls in lots of places, from a high-end boutique to a thrifty consignment shop. The choice is yours!
