You’re Fired! NBC Cuts Ties With Donald Trump
Donald Trump’s big fat mouth has cost him yet another business relationship. Monday, NBC announced that they have severed ties with the 69-year-old mogul.
At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump. To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC. In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in The Apprentice on NBC. Celebrity Apprentice is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group, and that relationship will continue.
The decision comes on the heels of a racist speech delivered by Trump following his presidential candidacy announcement.
“The U.S. has become a dumping ground for everybody else’s problems,” Trump declared. “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you… They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
He went on to make a bizarre promise regarding the building of “Great Wall” at the Mexican-American border that will supposedly be funded by Mexico. As to be expected, his off-the-wall comments were met with much criticism. Shortly after the incident, Univision decided to drop Trump’s Miss USA pageant and Roselyn Sanchez stepped down as a co-host of the competition. A petition urging NBC to end their relationship with Trump attracted over 200,000 signatures.
