Beautifully Balanced: How We Manage Our Hair When Working Out

Since October 2014, Deputy Editor Brande Victorian has said goodbye to 80 pounds — and relaxers. A fan of the wash n’ go lifestyle, having two completely different textures on her head at once has meant getting creative with her styling.

Pre workout: “I’m all about bun life, so if my hair isn’t already in a low or high bun, it’s going in one before I hit the gym — with a little edge control to smooth the permiter.”

Post workout: “My scalp is the first thing that starts sweating during my workouts so most nights I co-wash after the gym and sleep in a leave-in conditioner and oil to keep my hair moisturized. In the morning, I’ll either blow dry my hair with a diffuser and wear it out or bun it up in some kind of way. I went through a period where I really wanted to wear my hair straight so I used Beautiful Textures’ Texture Manageability System and flat ironed and wrapped my hair at night after the gym. It was a really good option for going from straight to curly on a regular basis.”
