“How Many Cheerleaders Has Your Boyfriend F—ed Today?” Wife Of NFL Player Sues Former Employer
In a newly filed lawsuit, the wife of San Francisco 49ers player Lawrence Okoye filed a lawsuit against her former employer claiming that she was targeted by co-workers for dating a black man, the New York Daily News reports.
Philippa Okoye landed a job as a senior investment advisor at the deVere Group in October 2013. During her stint of employment, Okoye says that she was often harassed by CEO Benjamin Alderson about her boyfriend’s decision to pursue his NFL dreams.
“How many times has big Lawrence cheated on you?” Alderson allegedly asked. “So Philippa, how many cheerleaders has your boyfriend f—– today?”
In addition to cheating jokes, Okoye says that Alderson hurled many other vulgar and racist insults her way. In addition to saying negative things about her then boyfriend’s ethnicity, Alderson also allegedly mocked her for her Christian faith, called her a “Bible basher” and walked past her desk singing hymns. She was also the only woman at the office at the time and claims that her male coworkers frequently discussed sex, strippers, drugs and prostitutes.
In the lawsuit, Okoye alleges that she was demoted after she complained about Alderson’s behavior, but the insults only continued. February of last year, she was transferred to California, where she worked remotely. She was later fired for what her boss called performance reasons. According to the suit, the experience has caused Okoye severe anxiety because her work visa was in jeopardy.
She is suing for damages that will be determined once the case goes to trial.
