Famous Pairs Who Tried Couples Counseling
Believe it or not, but some celebrity couples put time and effort into improving their marriages. Not everyone (well, for the most part) is interested in heading to divorce court so that they can seek out the next fame-boosting affair. These celebrity couples tried couples counseling, and it worked for most of them.
Beyoncé and Jay Z
According to Hollywood Life, a friend of the couple said they do counseling sessions every week via Skype with a therapist they’ve known for a while.
Syleena Johnson and Kiwane Garris
The “R&B Divas” star and her former NBA playing husband were on season two of “Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars.” According to WE tv, the couple felt disconnected after having kids and dealing with their busy work schedules. Looks like counseling helped, because they are still together and trying to make it work.
Natalie Nunn and Jacob Payne
These two are another couple who ended up on season two of “Marriage Boot Camp.” According to WE tv, cheating allegations landed this pair in therapy.
Treach and Cicely Evans
This pair appeared on VH1’s “Couple’s Therapy” during season five. According to Wetpaint, the pair has since said that therapy saved their relationship. Their biggest piece of advice for other couples struggling is never to think you are always right in your relationship.
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink split in early 2015, but they revealed that they’d been in couples counseling since the beginning of their relationship, according to The Daily Mail.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard went to couples counseling according to Us Magazine. The two admit they are total opposites and needed some help learning how to deal with and move past disagreements.
Tashera Simmons and DMX
After Simmons and DMX appeared on VH1’s “Couple’s Therapy,” where DMX mostly yelled at his wife and tried to excuse his cheating ways, the pair still couldn’t make things work.
Tashaunda “Tiny” Hailey and JoJo
Tiny and JoJo appeared on VH1’s “Couple’s Therapy” but in the end, Tiny could not deal with JoJo’s alcoholism, according to Radar Online.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
While still with Humphries, Kim Kardashian and her husband of 72 days attended couples counseling at his home in Minnesota. According to The Daily Mail, the pastor who married the couple also attended the sessions to help the pair work through their issues.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Moving on to her new marriage, Kardashian is already in couples counseling with Kanye West, according to Wetpaint. Apparently the couple is seeing a therapist to help them adjust to life as parents.
David Duchovny and Téa Leoni
The “X-Files” star entered rehab for sex addiction during his marriage to Leoni. According to DThe Daily Mail, Leoni visited her husband in rehab for therapy sessions several times. Unfortunately, the couple eventually divorced.
Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson
According to The Huffington Post, when Lindsay Lohan was dating Samantha Ronson, the pair went to couples counseling because they just couldn’t stop fighting.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe
Before finally splitting, this couple spoke openly about going to couples counseling, according to People. The magazine speculated that Phillippe’s jealousy over Witherspoon’s success, coupled with his affair, split the pair up.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline
Before the pair split, VH1 said they attempted couples counseling. Unfortunately, these two only lasted through two years of marriage.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie
In true rock star fashion, these two attended something called whisper therapy while married. According to The Guardian, the therapy involves the couple looking at each other every 15 minutes, touching every couple of minutes and continuously saying complimentary words to one another. Sadly, it didn’t work for them.
