Man Shot To Death After Accidentally Hitting 2-Year-Old Who Ran In Front Of His Car

April 13, 2015  |

A drive down a residential Milwaukee street took a devastating turn when Archie Brown Jr.’s van fatally struck a 2-year-old child who ran into the street, Fox 6 reports.

According to the Associated Press, Brown, 41, immediately got out of his vehicle to help and picked up the child. A 15-year-old bystander also walked over to offer assistance. Moments later, a gunman appeared and opened fire. Brown was struck in the head. He died at the scene. The teen was also shot. He died in surgery at a nearby hospital. It’s unclear if the gunman was related to the child. Another man was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but he was not injured.

According to neighbor Ed Hall, the child was playing outside with a toy lawn mower prior to the accident. Brown’s father, Archie Brown Sr., 68, is devastated by the tragedy.

“My son’s just been murdered,” Brown Sr., who works as a local outreach minister, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “If I am a man of God and I believe in the Bible, nothing happens without a reason. What is the reason, I don’t know.”

Brown Sr. went on to say that his son was a dedicated father of four who purchased, remodeled and sold homes for a living. He was also co-owner of Seven West nightclub.

“It’s terrible,” Brown Sr. said. “My son has gone to eternity.”

“Just a good person all around. Never had any enemies. Always looking to do the right thing,” Brown’s half-brother Riles Rilley added.

Rilley went on to tell reporters that he was at a nearby park when the incident occurred. He found out about everything through social media.

“You wait for the text to come back and say he’s OK. First, they don’t know. Then they say, he didn’t make it,” he explained.

As of yesterday evening, investigators were still working on developing a suspect. We send our prayers to all families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
