Earlier this week, we told you about Walter Scott, the man who was senselessly gunned down by North Charleston cop Michael Slager. Although Slager initially claimed that he shot Scott during a traffic stop because he feared for his life, footage of the shooting quickly proved otherwise. Slager has since been charged in Scott’s murder and now the victim’s mother, Judy Scott, is speaking out. Read more about what she shared with CNN in the highlights below.

On how she’s dealing with everything:

“The Lord is my strength. He’s helping me to hold out. Knowing God as my personal savior [is what’s keeping me going right now].”

On how she found out:

“It was Saturday [when I heard the news]. Really, my elder son is the one that told me. I heard nothing from the police or anyone.”

On the police claiming Walter scuffled with the Slager:

“I knew that was not true. He knows how the North Charleston Police conduct themselves. He would never jeopardize his life. He would not have done it.”

On learning of the videotape:

“It was the next day. I couldn’t really watch the whole tape. When I saw my son running and I saw the policeman behind him, I couldn’t take it. I had to turn away. I couldn’t handle it.”

On what people should know about Walter:

“He’s a loving son, a loving father and he cared about his family. No matter what happens, it will not replace my son.”

On if she believes there will be justice:

“I believe God. With the policeman being arrested, he’s got to get convicted. I believe since God moves so fast, the God I serve is able. I know God will make a way. God will fix it.”
