Idris Elba Says His Chances Of Playing James Bond Have Been Ruined…
As far as I’m concerned, there’s no good reason why Idris Elba should not portray James Bond. It’s a sentiment quite a few of us share. And one people repeatedly expressed on social media.
Well, all that tweeting and campaigning might have done more harm than good…or at least that’s what Elba thinks.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elba discussed the rumor that grew during at a recent viewing of his self produced documentary Mandela, My Dad and Me, which follows Elba during the passing of his father Winston and recording of the 2014 album mi Mandela, inspired by his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
So about this Bond role… When he was asked about it, he said: “Honestly, it’s a rumor that’s really starting to eat itself. If there was every any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone.”
Elba also confirmed that he’d never spoken with any Bond producers about portraying the iconic character.
Instead, it was the former Bond boy who started this rumor.
“Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off. About four years ago he said ‘Idris Elba would be a great Bond’ and then it started to creep. I blame Daniel.”
You know, I really just hope Idris is being modest and he made these comments in jest because…again, there is absolutely no reason he shouldn’t have this role.
Do you think all the chatter really ruined his chances or is Idris probably just tired of people asking about it, when no one has come to him with a check?
