[Watch] Taraji P. Henson Talks ‘SNL’ Appearance & Season Two Of “Empire”
Although it will be a while before we’re properly reunited with our beloved Cookie Lyon, we’ll get a tiny taste of what we have to look forward to when “Empire” returns (whenever that may be) during this weekend’s episode of “Saturday Night Live.” As previously reported, the always beautiful Taraji P. Henson is set to host the comedic variety show and judging by this recently released promo trailer, we’re in for a bit of a treat.
In one take from the promo clip, cast member Taran Killam gets the taste slapped out of his mouth after asking if the 44-year-old is anything like Cookie in real life. In another, Killam learns how to confront someone who has been overstepping their boundaries. Then of course, there’s Killam’s brilliant idea for a TV show titled “Umpire,” that would tell the story of a “super dramatic family of baseball umpires.”
Although the promotional video wasn’t extremely funny, we’re definitely not doubting our girl Taraji. We’re quite confident that she’ll deliver come Saturday. Especially since the actress deems the opportunity to host the show as a “dream come true.”
“Legends do ‘SNL.’ I’m a legend” she joked during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “So look at the floor when you talk to me or you’re fired. I’m a legend! You gotta treat me different. You gotta treat me legendary!”
She also discussed the ‘SNL’ Cookie spoof.
“Take a dip, Chip! My publicist called and said, ‘You know you’re a legend when ‘SNL’ spoofs you.’ So then I puffed my chest out and walked a little different.”
And of course, she couldn’t end the interview without discussing season two of “Empire.”
“I’m interested in seeing what [Cookie] was doing during those 17 years she was locked up. I really want to get into her jail life.”
So do we!
Will you be tuning in to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend?
