Mom Fatally Shoots Son Trying To Defend Him Against Bullies

As the saying goes, bullets have no names. Unfortunately, LaToya Tilson, 33, is learning that lesson as a result of an extremely tragic situation.

According to WSBTV, Tilson fired the deadly shot that killed her 15-year-old son Pierre Tilson. The teen’s father Wayne Jones told reporters that the shooting was accidental. As the story goes, Pierre was protecting his younger sisters Lashae and Coco Tilson from a group of teens when an altercation ensued at the family’s College Park apartment complex. According to Lashae, the group began to attack them because they believed that the trio had been making fun of one of their friends. Pierre ran inside of his apartment to inform his mother of what was going on and she emerged with a .25-caliber gun in her pocket.

Witnesses says that Tilson was hit in the face while trying to break up the fight. Lashae says the group proceeded to jump on her mother and when she finally got a chance, she pulled out the gun and attempted to shoot her attacker.

“So they were jumping on her,” said Lashae. “She came up. When she realized her hands were free, she came up off the ground shooting. The boy that she was trying to shoot, he ducked, and my brother was in the way. He got hit.”

Pierre was hit in the back of the head. Another teen was hit in the buttocks. Once Tilson realized what she had done, Lashae explained that her mother tried to harm herself.

“I’ve been told — I haven’t spoken with her — she’s on suicide watch. She’s very distraught at this point,” Pierre’s father Wayne Jones told AJC. “If she’s looking or listening, I forgive you.”

Pierre died three days later at Grady Hospital. Tilson remains on suicide watch at the Fulton County Jail. Initially, Tilson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, cruelty to children, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, violation of the family violence act and carrying a concealed weapon. More charges could be added.
