She Tried It! Why You Need To Give Nubian Heritage’s 24-Hour All-Natural Deodorants A Chance
I’ve been looking for a long-lasting, good-smelling deodorant since the moment I entered puberty. I’ve tried just about every singularly named product on the market: Suave, Secret, Degree, Sure, Dove and even the old-school spray deodorants. As someone who was always involved in sports or some form of physical activity, I couldn’t much relief. Even when I was just sitting in class or at work, the armpits of my white shirts would be wet and turn yellow or I’d have to do one of those I-don’t-feel-so-sure sniff tests while pretending to stretch.
I’m not here to say that I found all the relief I’ve been looking for in this new deodorant, but I can say that I’ve stumbled upon a truly great and innovative product.
Nubian Heritage, the line that started out on top of fold-out tables on the streets of Harlem, is bringing you a new and all-natural way to combat that uptown funk. I had the opportunity to try out their 24-hour all-natural deodorants for the last week, and I literally tried every scent and option available: coconut and payapa with vanilla oil; honey and black seed with wild honey and apricot; Indian hemp with Haitian vetiver and neem oil; and classic African black soap with vitamin E. As previously mentioned, each option is all-natural, so there’s no aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, triclosan or silicones. All the ingredients they do have soothe, soften, hydrate, nourish and even take care of those spots and scars on your armpits (I know I’m not the only one who isn’t an ace with a razor).
But did these deodorants actually work for me?
I’ll be honest in saying that I had to get used to them. Because they’re all-natural and not antiperspirants, they didn’t have the same consistency I’m used to. Even though they are solid deodorants, they go on a little slippery initially. But despite that temporary wetness, I can say that the deodorants did last and they left me smelling fresh. The honey and black seed option was my favorite because the scent was clean yet sweet at the same time. The Indian hemp and Haitian vetiver came in a close second.
My only gripe after wearing each scent for about 15 of the recommended 24 hours was that they didn’t necessarily keep me smelling that good when I finally went to the gym. There were times where I finished exercising and felt like I needed to keep my arms down the entire train ride home. Don’t even get me started on the smell that emanated from my pits after last week’s SoulCycle class. I would also warn you to be careful with the African black soap option, as it doesn’t really provide the same relief as the other options for an armpit feeling super sensitive after shaving.
But, all in all, I like the products. Nubian Heritages 24-hour all-natural deodorants are probably not what you need to reach for when you plan to work up quite a sweat at the gym (stick with an antiperspirant), or know that you’re going to be in a place that will have you perspiring pretty heavily. But if you’re looking for a great deodorant to keep you fresh and get you through a stressful work day or outing with friends, I absolutely recommend this brand’s new line. The scents are quite unique and the results are impressive. And did I mention that they’re unisex?
These Nubian Heritage products can be found at Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods, and they also retail on the company’s website for $7.99. They’re definitely worth a try!
