Famous Stars Who Have A History Of Domestic Violence

It’s one of the worst feelings in the world to find out that someone you admire isn’t really who you thought they were. We’ve all felt that way when our favorite actors, singers and public figures had their bad behavior put on blast after being arrested or exposed by someone from their past. Here are a few uber-popular stars who still remain in the spotlight (and still get a lot of love from fans) despite past violent behavior.

Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard actually has more in common with his “Empire” character, Lucious Lyon, than you might think. Like Lyon, Howard has an extremely dark past: the actor has been accused of domestic violence at least six times. Some of these counts include the time he allegedly approached his ex-wife with a knife before knocking her down and kicking her. He was also accused of choking and punching another ex-lover in the face.

James Brown

If you didn’t see the recent James Brown biopic, Get On Up, then you may not know that aside from being Soul Brother Number One and the Godfather of Soul, James Brown was also violent with women. In a recent memoir that his daughter wrote, Cold Sweat, she details the different times she heard her father wreak physical havoc on her mother as a kid. In one gruesome account in particular, she recalls the first time she saw him abuse her mother. She jumped on Brown’s back to stop him from pummeling her mother, only to look down and see her mother’s eyes were purple and her face was gushing with blood.

Chad Johnson

Former NFL star Chad Johnson is known for being a talented wide receiver, but he’s also known for headbutting ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada. The hit was so hard that it left her in the ER with a gash on her forehead. The incident caused him to be dropped from the Miami Dolphins.

Dr. Dre

The famed producer and mastermind behind Beats By Dre not only physically assaulted TV personality Dee Barnes, but Michel’le recently stated that her ex even shot at her before:

“So one night we was arguing, he went and got the gun and I just made it through the bathroom door and he shot at me and missed me by this (holds up measurement fingers) much. He shot at me.”

Flavor Flav

In 2012, Flavor Flav was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery after he attacked longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Trujillo. He also chased her teenage son with a knife and threatened to kill him after he came to his mother’s defense.

Floyd Mayweather

One of the world’s highest-paid athletes, Floyd Mayweather shouldn’t have anything to be angry about. But the boxer flew into a rage and allegedly punched and kicked the mother of his three children multiple times after a disagreement, leaving her with a concussion. He was arrested after his oldest son sought out help. Josie Harris says such violence occurred on “six occasions” during their relationship.

Columbus Short

Scandal’s sexiest gladiator, Columbus Short, was kicked off the show after being accused of threatening to kill his estranged wife and himself. Short, reportedly drunk at the time, dumped a bottle of wine on her (and then threatened to hit her with it), pinned her to the couch as he held a kitchen knife, choked her with one hand, and demanded that they play “truth or dare.” He allegedly stabbed into the couch when he asked her questions about having an affair, all of which she denied.

Mike Tyson

The abuse that Mike Tyson wreaked on ex-wife, Robin Givens, is well-known. As Tyson said in his biography about that abuse, “She really offended me and I went BAM. She flew backwards, hitting every wall in the apartment. That was the best punch I’ve ever thrown in my entire life.” Are you cringing too?

Chris Brown

Chris Brown’s violent history with Rihanna has been written about quite a few times, so there is no reason to relive the details of that night. But Rihanna did say that this particular night was not the first time Brown put his hands on her, according to statements she made to police.

Upon further research into Brown’s past, many have said that his violent behavior could have come about after witnessing his former stepfather abuse his mother as a young child.

Wesley Snipes

While he never addressed the rumors, it was widely believed that actor Wesley Snipes was the man who caused Halle Berry to lose 80 percent of her hearing during an altercation. She never specified who abused her, but after singer Christopher Williams was accused of being the culprit, he pointed the finger at Snipes:

“The stuff they wrote about [me] and Halle was totally false. They said something like I busted her eardrum, and I’m tired of it. I never said it [before] but I’m so tired of people thinking I’m the guy [who did it]. Wesley Snipes busted her eardrum, not me.”
