GF Of Guy Who Used Crowdfunding To Crash Her Spring Break Trip Speaks Out: “I’m Not Getting Abused”

Earlier this week, we told you about Azel Prather, who raised money for a plane ticket to Miami using crowdfunding platform Go Fund Me. As you may recall, Prather reasoned that by donating, Internet users would be assisting him in crashing his girlfriend’s spring break vacation, which he equated with saving his relationship. Azel referred to the trip as every boyfriend’s “worst nightmare” and stated that he needed to go chaperone.

Well, he made it down to Miami in one piece and surprised his lady love Marissa, who says that she was both shocked and happy to see him. She recalls being half asleep when the 25-year-old showed up at her hotel.

“First of all, I’m half-asleep. So I’m thinking, ‘Am I dreaming right now or is he really outside?’ … My friends are like, ‘Are you serious?’ I know my boyfriend is being serious. I ran out the door and he was definitely in the lobby waiting for me,” she told MTV News.

Many of you felt that Azel’s inability to allow his girlfriend to enjoy vacation without him spoke to a much deeper issue. Some even expressed that his actions served as a major red flag in their relationship, but Marissa doesn’t seem to see it that way.

“[Those concerns are] definitely misplaced. Those are the most comedic comments I’ve ever seen in my life. He’s the best dude I’ve ever been with. To say ‘run’ is kind of crazy — I wish people knew who he was. They don’t know who he really is.”

She went on to say that upon news of Azel’s campaign going viral, she received tons of texts and phone calls from people concerned about her wellbeing.

“My friends from high school, who I don’t even talk to anymore, are calling and texting, ‘Are you OK?’ I’m like, ‘I’m OK — I’m not getting abused or anything like that.’ I knew [he did this in a] joking manner; it’s all out of proportion. … I thought this was one of his jokes, ‘You’re being annoying’ … and then it spiraled into this big thing.”

Now that you’ve been exposed to her side of the story, do you still feel the same about all of this?
