A Cincinnati mom has been charged with aggravated murder after her 3-month-old daughter was found dead in her family’s home.
According to WCPO-TV, police were called to a Waldway Lane home Monday for a report of a dead infant. When they arrived, they found Deasia Watkins, 20. Her daughter Janiyah Watkins was dead. It was apparent that the child suffered “multiple traumas.” Sources connected to the investigation say the baby had also been beheaded.
“It’s days like this when you really wonder how much evil there is in the world and how we’re fighting it,” said Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco. “We’re trying to do right by this child. We’re trying to bring justice for this baby.”
“It’s just a three-month-old senseless murder. A baby lost her life,” Sammarco added. “We’re all parents. You know I’m a mother, most of the people in our office are parents. This affects all of us.”
It is currently unclear if Watkins acted alone. She was taken into police custody and transported to a medical center where she underwent a mental health evaluation.
“Something’s wrong. She got to be sick in the mind or something,” Watkins’ neighbor told WKRC Cincinnati. “I don’t see how anybody can do that to a little baby.”
According to reports, the young mother was mentally ill and recently lost custody of Janiyah, who was placed in the care of a relative.
