Last fall, we reported Syleena Johnson and her retired NBA basketball player husband of eight years, Kiwane Garris, will be appearing on WE TV’s hit series, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. And in a recent interview with our sister site, MommyNoire, the couple revealed how the reality show actually strengthened their marriage and Kiwane learned to manage being a stay-at-home dad while Syleena brings home the bacon.
Despite their marriage being expected to fail because of Kiwane’s basketball career, Syleena says she and her husband maintain a certain level of intimacy, not only to help them bond but to be a good example for their children: “It’s always good for the kids to see Mommy and Daddy affectionate, especially since our kids are very attached to us, so it makes [them] more sweet and loving people because they see how we interact.”
When it comes to their children, Kiwane noted, “I’ve learned a million things at once. I’ve always been straightforward with everything; it was always: basketball, go to practice, come home, eat, take a nap, to the next practice, pay the bills, that was it. Now it’s getting the kids ready, getting their food ready, taking them to school, taking them to their activities, and even then putting in my own schedule in there. I run a nonprofit organization called Future Superstars and sometimes it’s 20 events going on all at once.”
